Planning a move to another state can leave you feeling full of anxiety. The anxiety can be in the form of excitement, nervousness, or worry. Gathering as much information as you can about the new state will help you to know what to expect from it, and can help relieve some of the tension caused by this anxiety.

Kentucky is full of excitement and adventure depending on which part you are moving to. There are many historic sites, museums, and horse farms which are common throughout the state. There are hundreds of streams and lakes as well as many beautiful, breathtaking views along the Appalachian region.

Perhaps one of the most notorious events is the thoroughbred horse race known as the Kentucky Derby. This exciting event is held annually in Louisville, Kentucky during the Kentucky Derby Festival. Both locals and tourists can enjoy two weeks of festivities and excitement.

The weather in Kentucky consists of relatively cold winters and warm and humid summers. Snow varies for different parts of the state, however in most parts it is generally light or mild snow. Kentucky is susceptible to thunderstorms, tornadoes, and flooding so it is important to always be prepared for emergencies.

Welcome, intrepid traveler to the wonderful state of Kentucky. No matter whether or not you’ve lived here, or have visited Kentucky in the past it is always a good idea to do some research for your upcoming relocation and that is what I am here to do exactly today. For hobbies and sightseeing, may I recommend some sports? The college athletics at the University of Louisville are always quite popular and fun. The lakes are also very popular in the summer months so you may want to break out your boat and fishing rod!

When you do move to Kentucky you should make sure to visit the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s official website as it has quite a bit of wonderful information. You can get in contact with the Kentucky Housing Corporation that offers assistance for people finally moving into their own home for the first time as well as the Kentucky Board Of Realtors which will help you find a home or rental property in the Commonwealth of Kentucky that suits you perfectly. The website also contains valuable information on things such as utilities, property taxes and which school districts will service you. Good luck and I hope you have a great time in the wonderful Commonwealth of Kentucky!

It was surprising to find that one of the best places to locate information on moving to Kentucky online was from a moving company. Although that sounds like an oxymoron, when I did a search for moving to Kentucky, http://www.upack.com/moving-companies/kentucky/was one of the links which appeared. Of course it talked about what to look for in a moving service, but it also gave links to Kentucky driver’s license requirements and employment opportunities plus things to do. Other research showed that Kentucky was a state easy to get to from 60 of US cities, its’ major cities of Lexington and Louisville have a low cost of living and low crime rate. Kentucky means horses and the Kentucky Derby but there is also the University of Kentucky basketball and Mammoth Cave National Park, the world’s largest cave system. Outdoor activities are found across the state from Cumberland Gap to Land Between The Lakes. In Louisville the Muhammad Ali Center is 2-1/2 levels covering the history and philosophy of the man along with educational programs. The four seasons of the year are present in Kentucky without hot or cold extremes.Number One on the to do list upon arriving: Order a Hot Brown!

Transporting your life to a new part of the country, even if your landing point is the great state of Kentucky, can be an intimidating endeavor. Fortunately it doesn’t mean you have to completely alter your likes, dislikes or way of life. After all, the picture in your new driver’s license will look more or less the same (perhaps plus a few wrinkles) no matter the background on the plastic card. For those who look at relocating as more of a daunting task than experiential opportunity, here are some helpful tips to make your new home feel like, well home.Set Up Your Rooms in Similar Fashion Obviously, this will be somewhat restricted by the floorplan of your new place relative to that of your old, but putting your bed against the right wall, your TV in the left corner and a picture or two in approximately the same position, all just as it was, will help to subtly put you at ease when you wake up every morning, at least as you get used to your new surroundings. After all, half the battle is waking up with a willingness to be where you are.Spring for Satellite TV With Dish or Direct TV Satellite Kentucky can be your place of residence, but not entirely your state of mind. A few extra bucks on your bill will enable you to watch familiar shows and sports teams in the time slots you are accustomed to. From Cleveland? Watch every Indians’ game with a sports package and see the same TBS sitcom re-runs an hour later than your new neighbors tune in.Stay in Touch Out of town is too often misunderstood as out of touch. In this day and age of social media, miles can be quickly traveled in milliseconds with only an internet connection. Talk to friends online, set up Skype dates and don’t be forgotten even if you are gone. A good ‘ole fashioned phone call every now and then does wonders as well. This isn’t a recommendation to shut yourself and live in the past, but keeping your existing friendships alive and well can be an essential crutch in this period of adjustment.

Another passing September marks a proud month for the Blue Grass State, as September is nationally recognized as Bourbon heritage month. Bourbon whiskey is a storied product in the state of Kentucky, a true staple that has come to represent not only hundreds of years of distilling history but the state itself. In fact, Bourbon takes its name from Kentucky’s Bourbon County, where as far back as the 1700′s barrels stamped with “Bourbon” were shipped across the country to satisfied customers. Moving to Kentucky without giving authentic Kentucky bourbon a fair shake would be like taking a trip to Baltimore and passing on the crab cakes or heading to a Kansas City steakhouse and ordering a fruit salad. After all, you’d be hard pressed to find a happy Kentucky home without at least one bottle of Bourbon stashed away for a rainy day.For newcomers, perhaps the best way to get acquainted with the state’s most famous local product would be a trip down Kentucky Bourbon Trail, a distillery by distillery road map that stretches across the state’s most famous names in whiskey production, including Four Roses, Heaven Hill, Jim Beam, Woodford Reserve, Wild Turkey and Maker’s Mark. Bourbon Trail is ideal for a weekend trip, though it should be properly scheduled in advance by coordinating each distillery’s tour time while mapping out your attack. Two full days are recommended to thoroughly see all 6 distilleries, as tour lengths and distances between the facilities may vary, ranging from 8 to 70 miles apart. Best of all, general tours and admission for 5 of the 6 distilleries is free, with Woodford Reserve charging a modest 5 a head for adults over 18. Tours are open to audiences of all ages, though visitors must be over 21 in order to sample any products, as samples are provided for of-age consumers on all 6 tours.

Amongst its many other attributes, Kentucky is known for its abundance of quality colleges and universities. Whether you’re the proud parent of a high school student who is no beginning the college search or an out-of-state student looking to transfer to the area, there are plenty of opportunities to consider. Not only are there many schools to choose from, there is a diverse range of institutions including small, private, liberal arts colleges as well as large, public, state universities.University of Kentucky: Located in Lexington, UK has over 27,000 students including its 7,000 post-graduate students. The undergraduate program is comprised of 16 different colleges, of which many of the ones related to the medical field are well known throughout the country. The impressive athletics at this school have a fan base that stretches far beyond the state’s borders.University of Louisville: Another public university in the state, U of L is a good bit smaller with just over 15,000 undergraduates. This school has become known for its innovative medical research and high-ranking medical programs. It is also the perfect fit for a sports fan, with impressive athletics year after year.Murray State University: Yet another stellar, public university who’s academic reputation is one of the best in the state. With a population of around 10,000 students, there is an active Greek system and a promising journalism school. However, the athletics don’t compare to some of the other public universities in the state.Kentucky also has several smaller religious universities such as Transylvania University, Alice Lloyd College, and St. Catherine College.Though we’ve mentioned several respected and sought after schools, you’ll be surprised to discover there are many other colleges and universities we haven’t even touched upon. No matter what size of school or type of degree your are looking for, there is something for everyone in the Bluegrass State.

Moving to your new home in the Bluegrass State has probably kept you busy for months. But once you’re all settled in, take a trip to get to know the fine spirit this state is famous for. When it comes to alcohol, America isn’t known for producing world-renowned products, but our one claim to fame is bourbon, the majority of which comes from Kentucky. The Kentucky Bourbon Trail takes you through the beautiful Kentucky countryside to visit six different distilleries for tours, demonstrations, and tastings. Kentuckians have been producing bourbon since the 1700s. One of the three original counties in Kentucky is known as bourbon. When the Kentucky whiskey was first being made and shipped to New Orleans along the Ohio and Mississippi rivers, it gained its distinct flavor and color from enduring the long trip inside oak barrels. These barrels of whiskey, containing a stamp from Bourbon county, soon earned the name Bourbon whiskey. The Bourbon Kentucky Trail makes for a great weekend trip, with many of the distilleries within an hour of one another. You can plan to stop at all six or just pick a few of your favorites to visit. The Kentucky Bourbon Trail website offers assistance in finding accommodations near the distilleries and along the trail. If you’re limited on time, the Woodford Reserve, Wild Turkey, and Four Roses Distilleries are all within 20 miles of each other. The other three include Maker’s Mark, Jim Beam, and Heaven Hill Distilleries, and are a bit farther apart. In order to fully experience each distillery you should allow at least an hour and a half. You can call ahead to any of the distilleries to reserve a tour time, or if you are travelling with just a few people, you can show up at your leisure. This trip offers you more than just a fun weekend of tasting bourbon, but a look at and understanding of your new home.

While Kentucky is famous for its horse racing, there is plenty of sans-hoof transportation to take you where you need to go, whether it’s your morning commute to work, a far away family vacation or a weekend trip to see the Bluegrass State’s scenic landscape and natural beauty.Highway travel in Kentucky is now easier than ever as legislation, effective in June 2007, raised the statewide maximum speed limit from 65 to 70. Kentucky is now a toll free state, to boot, as the final two remaining toll parkways, William H. Natcher Parkway and the Audobon Parkway, now offer free access. The state is serviced by five major interstates, including I-24 in the southwest, I-64 across northern Kentucky, I-65 splitting the state vertically with I-75 running parallel to it in the east and I-71 connecting both I-65 and I-75 in the state’s northernmost region. For those who do not own a motorized vehicle, Greyhound bus services are available with routes to most sizeable Kentucky towns. For travel abroad, whether out of state or out of country, Kentucky is the home of both Louisville International Airport and Cincinatti/Northern Kentucky International Airport. The Louisville International Airport not only features commercial airline travel but also serves as an international air-sorting hub for UPS, known as UPS Worldport. For domestic commercial travel, Blue Grass Airport, in Lexington, may also be of service. There are three conveniently located Amtrak stations spread across Kentucky, making travel by train a viable option for vacationers and commuters as well. These stations are located in Ashland, South Portsmouth-South Shore and Fulton, KY. Tourists may enjoy My Old Kentucky Dinner Train, running between Bardstown and Limestone springs. Passengers on the train receive a full four-course dining experience as they wind their way across the 20 mile voyage from start to finish. From top to bottom, East to West, Kentucky travel is easy, accessible and faster than ever. Your new Kentucky home is just a starting point to explore what this great state has to offer.

Moving is no fun for anyone, but if you neglect to plan properly for your move to Kentucky, it can be much worse. It is important that you take some time and set up a schedule of all the things you need to do before you make that move. A good plan will help make moving smooth sailing, and the following list of things that you need to do should help.Number One: Make sure that you have a firm move in date to your new house or apartment, and do not arrive early unless you do not mind spending a night or two in a hotel. Make sure that movers, if you use a professional moving company, know the date as well, and double check that they will arrive on time.Number Two: Call the power company to make sure that you have power on in your home before you get there. You can wait to get all of the other utilities, such as the phone, Internet, and cable, but you will want to have electricity when you arrive so you can begin unpacking and settling into your new place.Number Three: Get your new license or state ID as soon as you can. With all of the excitement of making that move to Kentucky, some people forget that they need to have a new license for their new state. You have a grace period, but it is better to do it while it is fresh in your mind.Number Four: Get to know your neighbors.
